Le Nain Rouge
I created this piece based on the Detroit legend, Le Nain Rouge, for a sponsored project with Park Rite parking. Below, You’ll find the final design and mock-ups of how the mural would have looked on the face of the structure. Unfortunately, it wasn’t chosen in the end to be put into production.
Le Nain Rouge was called the “harbinger of doom” for the city of Detroit after the founder insulted it. This creature has been found with ties to Native American legends, as well as those of French stories. As a city with strong French roots, Detroit throws a parade, Le Marche du Nain Rouge, to scare the Nain away for another year of good luck. It’s comparable to that of New Orlean’s Mardi Gras celebration. In this work, the Nain represented within the famous Spirit of Detroit statue, the objects he holds encompassing our celebration, and the turquoise encasing it all is our spirit and energy encasing the evil of the Nain to keep it contained and away.
