Compliments

This illustration focused on shapes and a limited color palette. I wanted to focus on gorgeous golden colors and then use strong greens as a a great secondary color pairing. I wanted the striking, deep value of the model to be emphasized by the oranges and graphic shapes that frame her. However, I didn’t want a separate the graphic and representational elements too much, so I decided to take advantage of the model’s hair shaping and brought the graphic elements into the representational for a smooth combination/transition.

This illustration’s original purpose was to be formatted on the back of a skateboard deck.
